Hideo Kojima has announced the Death Stranding movie a week after presenting the sequel to the game. The creator of the saga has signed a collaboration between his studio, Kojima Productions, with the production company Hammerstone Studios, responsible for Barbarian, an exclusive Disney + horror film.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new collaboration with Hammerstone Studios,” Hideo Kojima revealed upon breaking the news. “This is a very important moment for the saga and I’m looking forward to collaborating with them to bring Death Stranding to the big screen,” thus revealing that the film will hit theaters.
“We are excited and honored to have the opportunity to partner with the brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima in his first film adaptation,” they advance from Hammerstone through the words of Alex Leboviciexecutive producer of Barbarian.
“Unlike other big-budget video game adaptations, this one will be something much more intimate and with your feet on the ground. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This movie will be an authentic ‘Hideo Kojima production’“, says Lebovici.
First details of Death Stranding: The Movie
Kojima Productions opened a new division to go beyond video games just a year ago. In its day, it was announced that the study “has as its objective Expand the reach and knowledge of the properties that are now being developed to make them even more a part of our popular culture.”
In this way, it was already suspected that Death Stranding could have a movie or series as it was the only known license from Kojima Productions. Now it is confirmed that the tape “will introduce new elements and characters within the universe”although in a script that is kept strictly secret until the advance of news.
