Now that Microsft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard is closer to completion following the FTC’s surrender in court, the CEO of UbisoftYves Guillemot, has not hesitated to share his opinion and reveal that the Assassin’s Creed company is on the right track in its current business strategy.
As the VGC portal collects, Microsoft usually remembers that the purchase of Activision Blizzard was not made because it became the owner of Call of Duty, if not to further its ambition in the mobile game market. However, acquiring the company means becoming the owner of some of the most important brands in the gaming sector, as well as various ones, as can be seen by comparing Crash Bandicoot, Diablo y Overwatch.
During Ubisoft’s Q1 financial review, Guillemot was asked if he thinks the Activision deal will be a catalyst for increased M&A activity in the sector and if so, what is your Opinion on staying independent in an industry that is consolidating. “I think it’s good news that the transaction can go through because it really shows the power of IP and where the industry is headed. Therefore, there will also be many opportunities in the future for all companies“, answered.
Ubisoft considers it important to boost its licenses
In summary, the CEO of Ubisoft believes that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard “shows the value of IPs that now they can be on console and PC, but also on mobile, and become more global brands, and when we say worldwide, it really is everywhere in the world, and that’s a fantastic opportunity.”
Although Ubisoft is not for sale or has plans to do so at the moment, suspicion has been generated in recent months after the cancellation of multiple games and projects. However, the company has its own agreements, such as the one signed with Tencent to expand into the mobile market with titles like Assassin’s Creed Codename Jadewhich will celebrate its beta in the coming weeks.
