The console war is a hot topic in the industry, with Xbox sales performance being a common debate. If in recent years many players were satisfied with the decisions of the company, which has opted to buy numerous renowned studios and create the Xbox Game Pass subscription service focused on games, it seems that now it would be the company that would be dissatisfied with Xbox results.
After the launch of Xbox Series X | S in 2020, a new era began for the company through a next-generation console that offered two versions to compete with PS5. However, veteran journalist Jeff Grubb has explained that Microsoft is not happy with the Xbox situation right now. “I can tell them no, they are upset”, referring to the management of the studies.
“We’re just trying to diagnose it a little bit. They didn’t release their own game last yearand if that doesn’t affect you if you always have something to play again, that’s awesome, but many people regret having their XboxGrubb explains. In fact, Xbox Series sales are not at their best, while PS5 sales continue to outpace PS4 sales at an unstoppable pace now that there is stock in all stores.
A year of changes?
Fortunately, Microsoft already has a date for exclusive Xbox releases for this year, being Redfall and Starfield their greatest assets to conquer the players, who will also be able to start careers in Forza Motorsport at the end of the year. The sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Fable, and Perfect Dark appear to be much further away from release, while Activision Blizzard’s buyout has gone haywire in numerous countries.
While no changes in Microsoft’s strategy with Xbox can be expected in the short term, it is true that poor performance of the console and its games could cause changes for the future. Will they be able to pick up sales and release exclusive games more frequently? Or will the company end up focusing on PCs or subscription services to increase its profits?
