Eldritch Abomination
Adapted from an Alan Baxter short story, In Vaulted Halls Entombed is a Lovecraftian horror short that harks back to the Cthulhu Mythos. The short follows a group of troopers who enter a cave to rescue a hostage. They encounter a swarm of insectoid creatures, including flesh-eating spiders. They also come face to face with a massive eldritch deity.
The Eldritch Abomination is a monstrous green-skinned being with a cephalopodic head and bat-like wings. It is locked inside the Eldritch Location, a massive structure within a cave.
The story begins with a team of US military soldiers on a mission to rescue a hostage. They track him to a hidden cave. They find a mysterious tunnel leading to the Eldritch Abomination. However, the team is attacked by an insectoid creature, and the tunnel seems to be the only way to get back to the surface.
In the end, the team is forced to kill the giant being. It is a mystery as to whether the Eldritch Abomination is actually a deity, or if the giant being has just released it.
Bound God
Among the many episodes of Love, Death and Robots season 3 is “In Vaulted Halls Entombed”. This episode was written by Philip Gelatt, directed by Jerome Chen and produced by Sony Pictures ImageWorks, the animation studio behind the popular movies Men in Black and Hotel Transylvania. This episode features an eldritch incarnation of the famous Cthulhu, and we may be in for a big surprise.
In the season 3 premiere, three Special Forces soldiers are dispatched to rescue a hostage in the Middle East. While attempting to recover the hostage, the soldiers find themselves inside a spooky mountain fortress. They soon discover that one of the hostages has been transformed into a series of skeletal creatures.
The survivors are surrounded by an army of cockroach-like alien creatures. The group is quickly overwhelmed by the number of monsters. In the end, only three of the survivors manage to escape the tomb. The other survivors have a hard time figuring out what to do.
Coulthard and Harper
‘In Vaulted Halls Entombed’ is the eighth episode of season three of Love, Death and Robots. The series follows a group of Special Forces soldiers tasked with rescuing a hostage in Afghanistan. They eventually discover an abandoned survivor’s camp, where a crate of M67 hand grenades is stored. They then use the grenades to try to rescue the hostage.
The episode is based on the short story by Alex Baxter, “Vaulted Halls Entombed”. Jerome Chen directed the episode. He also voiced the character of Coulthard. Joe Manganiello voiced Sarge. Jeff Schine voiced Gladstone. Christian Serratos voiced Harper. Jay Courtney voiced Spencer. Stanton Lee voiced Dilman.
The episode is a military thriller, which uses science fiction elements. In particular, there is a similarity to the Lovecraft story about Cthulhu. It is a powerful creature that can make people crazy. It’s also known to cause psychosis and brainwashing.
The episode leaves many questions unanswered. It also feels a little disconnected from the thematic throughline of the series. The episode has a few interesting ideas. However, the overall result is easily forgotten.
Ravenous cave spiders
Apparently, the legendary Eldritch god Cthulhu is the occupant of the ancient mountain tomb in the Love, Death, and Robots episode In Vaulted Halls Entombed. The show’s makers have yet to reveal whether the monster is a real person or a fictional creation, but there are some clues in the episode’s nature that suggest that it could be.
During a recon mission in the Middle East, a team of MARSOC soldiers finds a hostage who has been transformed into skeletons. The survivors then discover a large building in the distance. They also discover that the hostage is being held in an old, abandoned temple, which contains the remnants of an ancient god. These creatures are so powerful that they are able to attack the rescue team and take the survivors captive.
The cave spiders in the episode are thought to be the offspring of Syrkrosh, the Spider Goddess, who inhabited Tain, the world where Cartucke and the Light forces are located. They were not a threat to the Dark forces under Cartucke’s rule, but were known to harass the Light forces in the region.
