Three grandmothers died as a result of a fire unleashed this Wednesday night in a nursing home in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Urquiza. Five other older adults had to be transferred to area hospitals.
The incident occurred last night after 9 p.m. at the “Pehuén” home for the elderly, located on Bauness Street at 2100. City Firefighters, Civil Defense and personnel from the Buenos Aires Logistics Directorate attended, after a call to 911.
Officers successfully evacuated 17 residents and staff working at the residence. But they found three deceased elderly women in the area of the quiet part of the upper floor.
Five other people, meanwhile, were referred to hospitals Tornú, Pirovano, Álvarez, Zubizarreta and Vélez Sarsfield.
From the outside, the flames coming from the first floor of the establishment were observed, although, according to reports, the fire spread widely.
Apparently it all started with a mattress that caught fire.
