The composition of the Supreme Court returns this week to the center of the scene. This Wednesday, the debate will begin in the Senate for the expansion of the highest court, today made up of four magistrates, after the resignation of Elena Highton de Nolasco.

The project, presented by Senator Adolfo Rodríguez Saá from San Luis, is promoted by Kirchnerism and proposes raising the number of judges that make up the Court to nine.

Today, the highest court is made up of five members, but it works with four: Horacio Rosatti (president), Carlos Rosenkrantz, Juan Carlos Maqueda and Ricardo Lorenzetti. In September of last year, Minister Highton de Nolasco presented her resignation, which became effective on November 1st.

The initiative will begin to be analyzed this Wednesday in commissions, in a framework of high tension between the Frente de Todos and the Supreme Court, after the ruling that declared the reform of the Judicial Council unconstitutional, the assumption of Rosatti as head of the judicial body and the dispute over the appointment of the two representatives of Congress.

In the opposition they maintain that the proposal will not be approved by Congress.
