If just a few days ago we saw the first trailer for Immortals of Aveum, EA’s magical shooter that will run on Unreal Engine 5, now we have known that Sony could have canceled a shooter game with touches of science fiction. As reported by Gamingbolt through insider @bogorad222, the project was intended to be in the hands of Final Strike Gamesknown for creating Rocket Arena, the explosive 3v3 shooter released in 2020.

Although it is unknown if the canceled project is the “unannounced AAA PvP shooter” that Sony itself anticipates on its job offers web page, the leaker reports that this now canceled project was scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and PC. In fact, it has been in development for up to three years, having passed its halfway mark by being scheduled to launch in two years.

It is unknown if a review of the project by Sony would have led the company to make the decision, although the source reports that the developer Final Strike would have reduced its workforce by 40% after what happenedwith today being a layoff day according to a screenshot of former software engineer Ahmed Khalifa’s job profile.

Sony also closes a PlayStation studio

Just a few days ago the news broke of the closure of PixelOpus, which belonged to PlayStation Studios after the release of Concrete Genie. In 2021, the studio was seeking staff for “an exciting new title for PlayStation 5” developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation using the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine with the intention of addressing the “innovation” and “creative opportunities” offered by the collaboration with the creators Spider-Man: A New Universe. It is unknown if this project would have also ended up canceled.

It will be hard to find out if this supposed sci-fi shooter has truly been cancelled, though It is possible that some details will be shared by Final Strike Games itself over the next few daysso we will be aware.
