For the eighth date of the Professional League Cup, River beat Defense and Justice 2-1, at the Norberto Tomaghello stadium. With this result, the team led by Marcelo Gallardo is in second place in Group A with 16 points, while Sebastián Beccacece’s team is in fourth place with 14 units.
Regarding the match, in the first moments, River was close to the rival area. In fact, after five minutes, the local cast almost scored a goal against after some rebounds in the area.
Defense reacted quickly and had some clear situations to score, but the players were not fine in the definition.
For its part, River warned, at 21 minutes, when Enzo Fernández took a powerful shot from the edge of the area that hit the crossbar. A few moments later, the visiting cast finally opened the scoring. Santiago Simón moved the ball and opened the ball for Fernández, who got into the area and finished off with a left foot to the near post to make it 1-0.
In the complement, those led by Gallardo had more of the ball, but both casts had chances to score.
At nine minutes, Julián Álvarez settled in and shot on goal, but goalkeeper Ezequiel Unsain held the attacker’s shot.
Finally, River stretched the advantage on the scoreboard, at 17 minutes, through Simón, who received, turned and took a shot from long distance to make it 2-0.
However, Defense reacted at minute 25. Walter Bou finished, the ball hit Milton Casco and then back to him to get past Franco Armani. In the first instance, Patricio Loustau charged the forward offside, but, thanks to the intervention of the VAR, the goal was validated.
After some attempts by both casts, the match finally ended 2-1 in favor of River Plate, which remains second in Group B of the contest. For its part, with this defeat, Defense and Justice is fourth.
