María Cecilia Román from San Juan today lost her International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title to Australian Ebanie Bridges, who beat her by unanimous points in a fight held at the First Direct Arena in the English city of Leeds.
The three judges saw Brigdes as the winner: two by 97-93 (Phil Edwards and Alejandro López Cid) and one by 100-91 (Don Trella).
The fight represented Roman’s seventh defense of his crown, but the first outside the country.
The 39-year-old boxer, born in Villa Mallea and resident in San Juan capital, now has a record of 16 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw; Bridges, 35, born and living in New South Wales, has a record of 8 wins (3 ko) and 1 contrast.
