The CMA crash remains Microsoft’s biggest headache.

Even with the blockade of the CMA that is criticized even in the British government itself, Microsoft could already close the purchase of Activision Blizzardalthough only under certain conditions which would further complicate the current situation. All this after China was the last country to give the go-ahead to that operation of almost 70 billion dollars.

While the agreement still has to be endorsed by the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC)or by Australia and New Zealand, has already received the green light in more than 30 markets including China, Brazil, Japan, Saudi Arabia or the European Commission.

Microsoft limitations on buying Activision Blizzard

Even without FTC approval and the CMA block, Microsoft could theoretically close the purchase of Activision Blizzard, but it is very likely that it will not yet. The main reason for this is that, with the blockade of the British organization still in place, Microsoft would have to be forced to withdraw part of Xbox services in the UK to meet your demands.

According to the CMA, Microsoft would have both decision-making power in the cloud gaming sector if you buy Activision Blizzard that would endanger the competition, so, if you want to close the deal now, Microsoft would have to withdraw their streaming game services in the UK, but that is highly unlikely to happen due to the importance of the british market for the Xbox brand.

In short, if Microsoft wanted to close the purchase of Activision Blizzard today, it could do so, but it would have negative consequences which it is very possible that they do not want to assume. In this way, it will be necessary to follow the appropriate legal procedures and see if Microsoft gets the CMA to remove the blockade, for which they hired an expert shyster on the subject. In the meantime, gamers can look forward to game news at the Xbox Games Showcase taking place next June.
